Microbes Identified to Eliminate Specific PFAS Contaminants

UC Riverside’s environmental engineering team has pinpointed certain bacterial species capable of breaking down specific “forever chemicals,” potentially paving the way for affordable solutions to purify contaminated drinking water.

These microorganisms, identified as part of the genus Acetobacterium, are typically found in wastewater environments worldwide.
