The average global temperature in July, the hottest month in recorded history, was around 1.5 degrees Celsius warmer than in pre-industrial times.

The Paris Agreement set the ambitious target of limiting the world to a temperature increase of 1.5C, but last month’s blistering heat does not mean this threshold has been breached – the deal instead refers to change that takes place over decade
